This database is a list of all the HIPAA implementation issues that have been identified by the WEDI SNIP Process as items that need to be addressed.
Why has this Database Been Provided?
Consistent with the SNIP Mission and scope, this issues
database is made available to the public in order to continue fostering the
industry wide collaboration effort addressing HIPAA implementation issues.
Just as the SNIP initiative focuses on issues dealing with implementation
(not policy or individual need) this database has been designed to facilitate
the response and tracking of these significant industry wide issues specific to
the implementation of transactions, code sets, and security and privacy.
How should it be utilized?
Because the nature of Transactions/code sets is somewhat different than the Security and
Privacy areas, SNIP leadership encourages the use of this tool in different ways depending on the issue.
Regardless of your issue, one must first follow the same initial steps:
1. Click 'Submit an Issue'
2. Drop down and highlight the subject box.
3.
Drop down and highlight the secondary subject.
4. Complete various demographic information from
name through to company.
5.
Describe the issue in the 'issue' free form text box. Please be as concise, yet complete as
possible.
6. Choose appropriate level of criticality
This database can be searched to see what issues have been brought to WEDI SNIP
for review and what solutions have been offered. If you have an issue that is not found in the database
and you'd like WEDI SNIP to consider it, you can post your issue using the submission form (insert link here).
If Submitting Transaction Code Set Issues:
A. Complete all remaining boxes from transaction type through to external code set name
(as applicable).
B. Click 'Submit Issue' in order to save to database.
If submitting an issue to Security and Privacy, be sure to review the
following:
Due to the fact that Security and Privacy is scalable based on the complexity of the
entity, the SNIP Security and Privacy leaders choose to request only 'industry wide' topics for this
database use.
A. Be sure to adequately describe your issue and why it should be considered as
applicable to the industry in the free form text box entitled 'Issue'.
B. Be sure to scroll down to
the bottom of the page and select 'Submit Issue.'
Once My Issue is submitted- what will happen to
it?
If your issue was related to the
Transactions/ EDI Code Sets it will be forwarded to the appropriate sub workgroup for transactions,
where it will be considered by the sub workgroup as an item that they agree should be addressed.
It will be important for a submitter to participate in
subsequent conference calls for the sub work group to ensure their issue is properly understood.
If your issue is selected as a work item, you will be
contacted to offer further explanation and assistance with the resolution process.
All selected issues will be reviewed, with the aim to develop
industry consensus toward a solution, which will be posted for broader industry comments via our discussion
database. Once an issue has had an opportunity for full dialogue
in both the sub workgroup and on the discussion database, a final resolution will be posted by the sub
workgroup to the issues database as an industry best practice or recommendation from WEDI SNIP.

If your issue was related to Security & Privacy it will
be forwarded to the appropriate workgroup or sub workgroup for consideration as a white paper research topic.
If it is selected, you will be contacted to offer further explanation and assistance with the
exploratory process.
