September 17, 2021
WEDI submitted a formal letter to the Recognized Coordinating Entity (RCE) in response to the draft Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) framework, a key component of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT’s (ONC’s) Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA). WEDI commended ONC and the RCE for ensuring an open and transparent development process and called for: (i) TEFCA to remain voluntary; (ii) ONC and the RCE to focus efforts on ensuring appropriate levels of privacy and security are established; and (iii) ONC and the RCE to consider delaying the launch of TEFCA and explore identifying FHIR-based standards as a more secure and scalable option for interoperable exchange of health information.
